HISTORY

        In the epoch that the “Globalization” is the worldwide trend, the establishment of Taiwan subjectivity has also become an urgent issue. And hence, to promote the local studies of Taiwan- from political, economical, societal, and cultural perspectives, Taiwan Studies Center (TSC) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) was found in April 2003. The Director of TSC is Prof. Hsien-Ming Lien.

       TSC claims self as the role of civil think-tank which provides the consulting services and becomes the international distinguished academic institution in the field of Taiwan studies.

 

VISION

1. The localization of international academic fruits on Taiwan studies.

2. The elaboration of the local academic fruits on Taiwan studies.

3. The internationalization of the local academic fruits on Taiwan studies.

 

MISSION

       To achieve the goal of localization, internationalization, and elaboration on Taiwan studies, the connection between TSC and the international academic community will depend on the profundity, breadth, and maturity on Taiwan studies along the excellence and prominence of its academic distributions. Therefore TSC has announced the following directions on research and education to follow:

 

  • Directions on research

TSC emphasizes on both education and research: research to boost education while education to promote research. And TSC has the following as the academic aim:

 

  1. Taiwanese history and culture.

  2. Taiwanese politics and economics.

  3. Taiwanese social development

 

  • Directions on education

       TSC plans to operate an English-lecturing program “Understanding the development of Taiwan” in the summer. The program not only introduces the political, societal, economical, and cultural development in Taiwan since 1950s, but also organizes visit schedules to have further understanding of Taiwan development. The program is about to be held in the summer, inviting people to participate from the domestic and the international, to achieve the vision of the internationalization of Taiwan Studies.
